Removing and installing coolant pipe (small)

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing

Caution

Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.

–	Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off.

–	Drain off coolant → Chapter.

–	Remove intake manifold → Rep. Gr.24.

–	Disconnect crankcase breather hose -3- at cylinder head cover.

–	Pull off retaining clip -2- on oil filter housing.

–	Unscrew bolt -1- and remove crankcase breather oil separator.

–	Detach coolant hoses -arrows- from coolant pipe (small).

–	Unscrew securing bolts -1- and -2- for coolant pipe.

–	Pull coolant pipe out of thermostat housing.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t	Renew O-rings.

t	Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.

–	Install intake manifold → Rep. Gr.24.

–	Observe notes on procedures required after connecting battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.

–	Fill cooling system → Anchor.

Tightening torques

Coolant pipe (small) to:	Thermostat housing	10
	Oil filter housing	15
Oil separator to coolant pipe (small)		10
