Removing and installing coolant pump Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-

t  Spring type clip pliers -VAS 5024 A- Removing   WARNING Hot steam/hot coolant can escape - risk of scalding. t  The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot. t  To allow pressure to dissipate, cover filler cap on coolant expansion tank with cloth and open carefully. –  Open filler cap on coolant expansion tank

–  Pull off engine cover panel -arrows-.

–  Vehicles with auxiliary heater: remove bolts -arrows- securing exhaust pipe for auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.

–  Release quick-release fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation. –  Drain off coolant → Chapter. –  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.

–  Unscrew coolant pump securing bolts -1- and remove coolant pump -2-. –  Remove O-ring -3-. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: –  Clean and smoothen sealing surface for O-ring.

–  Coat new O-ring -3- with coolant G12+. –  Fit coolant pump -2-. l  Installation position: Sealing plug in housing faces downwards. –  Tighten bolts -1- for coolant pump to 15 Nm. –  Install toothed belt → Chapter. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Fill up with coolant → Chapter. –  Install lock carrier with attachments → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.50.

–  Allow stop for torque reaction support to rest on rubber buffer for torque reaction support under its own weight and tighten nuts -arrows-. –  Install front bumper cover → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.63. –  Check headlight adjustment → Booklet803. Tightening torques
