Removing and installing oil filter bracket with oil cooler Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing –  Drain off coolant → Chapter. –  Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and detach top coolant pipe from coolant hoses -arrows-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- at oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Unscrew oil pressure switch -F1--item 2-. –  Detach oil supply pipe at oil filter bracket -3- and at connecting pipe for exhaust gas recirculation -4-.

–  Remove air intake hose at intake manifold flap motor -V157- by lifting retaining clip -arrow- slightly.

–  Disconnect coolant hose -arrows- and remove.   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Pull guide tube for oil dipstick upwards out of the cylinder block and swing towards front to remove.

–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- under engine. –  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Remove oil filter bracket. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew gaskets, seals and O-rings. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Electronic parts catalogue. t  To ensure that the charge air hoses can be properly secured at their connections, spray rust remover onto the worm thread of used hose clips before installing.

–  When installing air intake hoses with plug-in connectors, ensure that the securing clip -arrow- engages audibly on the retaining lug -A-. –  Install coolant pipe (top) → Chapter. –  Fill up cooling system (or change coolant if the oil cooler has been renewed) → . –  Fill up with engine oil and check oil level → Booklet803 or → Booklet805. Tightening torques

l  1) Renew bolts. l  2) 90° = one quarter turn.
