Removing and installing coolant pipe (top left and bottom left) - engine code letters AKE, AYM, BAU, BCZ, BFC

Removing

Note

All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing.

–	Drain off coolant → Chapter.

–	Remove front exhaust pipe with main catalytic converter: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter, vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.

–	Remove starter catalytic converter: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter, vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.

–	Remove turbocharger → Chapter.

–	Disconnect coolant hoses -1 ... 3-.

–	Unbolt coolant expansion tank -arrow-.

–	Disconnect electrical connector for coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- at bottom of coolant expansion tank and remove expansion tank.

–	Remove mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve → Chapter.

–	Remove bolts -1- for exhauster pump on cylinder head (left-side) and turn pump in direction of -arrow-.

–	Remove exhauster pump.

–	Disconnect coolant hoses -1- and -2- at coolant pipe (top left).

–	Remove bolt -3-.

–	Release cable tie -2- at rear of heat shield and move wiring clear.

–	Unscrew bolts -arrows- and detach heat shield -3- from connection.

–	Disconnect coolant hoses -1- and -4- from coolant pipes.

–	Pull coolant pipe (top left) to rear out of cylinder block.

–	Swivel rear part of coolant pipe to top right and remove.

–	Disconnect coolant hose -arrow-.

–	Remove coolant pipe (bottom left).

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t	Renew seals and O-rings.

t	Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.

t	Fit all cable ties in the original positions when installing.

–	Before installing, clean and smoothen sealing surface for O-ring.

–	Lubricate new O-ring with “G12+” and slide onto coolant pipe.

–	Push coolant pipe (top left) into bore on cylinder block.

–	Install mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve → Chapter.

–	Install turbocharger → Chapter.

–	Install starter catalytic converter: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter, vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.

–	Install front exhaust pipe with main catalytic converter: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter, vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.

–	Fill cooling system → Anchor.
