Separating engine and gearbox Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Support set for Audi -VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/11-

t  Adapter -T40058- Procedure l  Engine/gearbox assembly removed and secured to scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131 A-.   Note t  All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing. t  All heat insulation sleeves which are removed must be fitted in the same position when installing.

–  Screw down spindles of support elements from -VAS 6131/10- (left and right) at subframe as far as possible. –  Remove locating lugs from spindles. –  Remove subframe to the side.

–  Remove bottom engine/gearbox securing bolts -arrows-.

–  Set up scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131 A- with support set for Audi -VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/11- as follows:

1)  Support elements remain unchanged.

–  Place support elements from -VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/11- at left of engine/gearbox assembly, as shown in illustration.

–  Place support elements from -VAS 6131/10- and -VAS 6131/11- at right of engine/gearbox assembly, as shown in illustration. –  Turn spindles for the support elements upwards until all locating lugs make contact with the mounting points. –  Tighten base plates for support elements to 20 Nm on scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131 A-.

–  Detach electrical connectors -1- and -4- from bracket and unplug. –  Remove heat insulation sleeve at wiring harness and move the individual wires clear.   Note Illustration shows electrical connectors when installed.

–  Unscrew bolt -arrow- at bracket for front exhaust pipe (left-side).

–  Unscrew nuts -1 ... 3- securing front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold (left-side). –  Take out front exhaust pipe with starter and main catalytic converter.

–  Detach electrical connectors -2- and -4- from bracket and unplug. –  Move wiring harnesses clear.   Note Illustration shows electrical connectors when installed.

–  Unscrew bolt -arrow- at bracket for front exhaust pipe (right-side).

–  Unscrew nuts -1 ... 3- securing front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold (right-side). –  Take out front exhaust pipe with starter and main catalytic converter.

–  Unbolt engine speed sender -G28- from gearbox -arrow-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at reversing light switch -F4- and move wiring clear.

–  Remove engine/gearbox securing bolts -1 ... 7-.

–  Loosen clamping bolts -1- on sides of scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131 A- and pull rear section of platform together with gearbox towards the rear -arrow-; simultaneously separate the torque converter from the drive plate through the opening.
