Adapting kick-down function after renewing accelerator pedal position sender or engine control unit
Adapting kick-down function after renewing accelerator pedal position sender or engine control unit
  Note
If accelerator position sender or engine control unit is replaced, kick down function must be adapted on vehicles with automatic gearbox.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B-
Procedure
l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- connected.
l  Engine stopped, ignition switched on
l  No faults stored in fault memory.

Display on -VAS 5051B-:
–  From menu -1-, select “Self diagnosis” system and press → key to activate function.

–  From menu -1-, select vehicle system “01 - Engine electronics” and press → key to activate function.

Display on -VAS 5051B-:
–  From menu -1-, select function “006 - Basic setting” and press → key to activate function.

Display on -VAS 5051B-:
–  Press keys 63 on keypad -1- to select “Display group 063” and confirm entry by pressing key Q.

–  Activate basic setting by touching Activate key -A-.
Display on -VAS 5051B-:
–  Check display in display zones -3- and -4-.
Display shows: “Operate kickdown”
–  Fully depress accelerator pedal beyond kickdown point and keep it pressed.
Display shows: “Kickdown ADP runs”
–  Check the readout in display zones -3- and -4-.
Display shows: “Kickdown ADP O.K.”
  Note
t  If the display shows “Kickdown ERROR”: interrogate fault memory.
t  “ERROR” is indicated, for example, if the accelerator pedal is not pressed immediately after requested by the tester or if the accelerator pedal is released before the adaption process is finished. Exit function “006 - Basic setting” by pressing ← key and restart adaption.
–  End function “006 - Basic setting” by pressing ← key.
–  Select diagnostic function “022 - End output”.
–  Switch off ignition and unplug diagnostic connector.
