Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-
  W00-0120
t  Ball joint puller -T40010-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
t  Support bracket -10 - 222 A-
Removing
The procedure for removing the right-side track control link on vehicles with 3.0 ltr. TDI engine is the same as described above for all engine versions → Chapter.
–  Take up weight of engine assembly with support bracket.
–  Remove wheel trim; on light-alloy wheels, pull off trim cap (use puller in vehicle tool kit).
–  Remove wheel.
–  Remove noise insulation → Rep. Gr.50..
–  On vehicles with headlight range control, detach coupling rod of vehicle level sender -G78- from track control link → Chapter.
–  Secure brake disc with one wheel bolt.
–  Unscrew nut on joint pin of track control link until it is flush with end of thread. Counterhold joint pin with 4 mm Allen key if necessary.

–  Press joint pin of track control link out of tapered seat using ball joint puller -T40010-.
  Note
t  Make sure the two lever arms of the puller are parallel when maximum force is exerted; adjust as necessary.
t  To avoid damage to joints of upper links, support wheel bearing housing (e.g. using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-) to prevent the suspension from extending too far.

–  Remove hexagon bolt -1-.
–  Unscrew bolts -2- and -4-, take out coupling rod.
–  Unscrew nut from bolt connection -3-.

–  Remove nut -1-.
–  Unscrew bolts -2- and -3-.

–  Pull console for engine mounting and anti-roll bar -3- downwards and remove bolt -2-.
–  Take out track control link -1-.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:

t  Renew all bolts and nuts.
t  Bonded rubber bushes can only be turned to a limited extent. The mountings of the suspension links must therefore only be tightened when the suspension is in the unladen position → Chapter.
–  Remove remaining adhesive from joint pin on track control link.
–  On vehicles with headlight range control, fit coupling rod for vehicle level sender on track control link → Chapter.
Tightening torques → Chapter.
–  Install noise insulation → Rep. Gr.50..
–  Fit and secure wheel → Wheels and tyres; Rep. Gr.44.
