Retrofitting airbag sports steering wheel

For vehicles as from model year 1995 fitted with airbag as standard, the conversion to airbag sports steering wheel can be performed by an Audi workshop.

This involves ordering airbag sports steering wheel, airbag unit and appropriate label for vehicle model (e.g. S4).

Sticker with service life date is then to be detached from new airbag unit and affixed over airbag sticker at bottom of driver's side -B-pillar.

Airbag replacement must be inserted in service schedule in the case of vehicles with no sticker on B-pillar.

Vehicles converted to airbag sports steering wheel must be submitted for TÜV inspection. Proof must be provided that conversion work was carried out in an Audi workshop (invoice). Furthermore, the TÜV inspectorate must complete a certificate confirming that this steering wheel complies with the general type approval.
