Dismantling and assembling final drive
Removing and installing differential bevel gears

  • ● Differential removed.

Dismantling

  • ‒ Remove bolts on crown wheel and drive crown wheel off differential housing with a drift.
  • ‒ → Drive out shaft for bevel gears -4-.
  • ‒ Remove threaded piece.
  • ‒ Remove 3 differential bevel gears from differential housing.

  • ‒ → Take off circlip -A- from drive flange output shaft -arrow-.
  • ‒ Remove 4th differential bevel gear.
  • ‒ Pull out output shaft for right-hand drive flange.
  • ‒ Remove one-piece thrust washer from differential housing

Assembling

  • ‒ Lubricate one-piece thrust washer with gear oil and insert in differential housing -1-.
  • ‒ → Insert output shaft -2- for drive flange in differential housing -1-.
    • ‒ Note installation position: the end with two bearing seats -arrows- faces toward the differential.
  • ‒ Fit sun wheel on output shaft -2-, and secure on shaft with circlip.

  • ‒ → To aid assembly, insert left flange shaft -1- into differential housing -2-.
  • ‒ Secure sun wheel to left-hand flange shaft using bolt and threaded piece.
  • ‒ Insert planet pinions -3- spaced 180° apart in openings in differential housing, and hold in place by hand.
  • ‒ Rotate planet pinions -3- into final position by turning output shaft for drive flange.

  • ‒ → Carefully drive in shaft -A- for planetary pinions. Ensure one-piece thrust washer is seated properly.
  • ‒ Install crown wheel => Fig.39-56.
