Note:

→ On the left side of intermediate flange is a leakage oil inspection hole -arrow- for the sealing rings in the input pinion and intermediate flange.

If oil leaks from leakage oil inspection hole the double sealing ring must be replaced.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary equipment required

• ◆ Thrust pad 3404

Removing

• ‒ Remove transfer gear
• ‒ Remove the intermediate flange for front axle drive
• ‒ → Use a suitable mandrel to drive out the oil seal -arrow- towards the transfer gear.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

• ‒ Check oil seal seat in gearbox housing for damage and rework, if necessary.

• ‒ → Slide the oil seal onto the thrust pad 3404 such that the larger, protruding outer ring -arrow- of the oil seal faces the tool.
• ‒ Drive in sealing ring with the thrust pad 3404 up to the stop in thrust pad.

Note:

If the intermediate flange is not positioned on the output shaft correctly, the sealing lips of the oil seal may be damaged.
