Removing

Note:

To avoid damage, decoupling element of exhaust system is never to be tilted by more than 10 °.

• ‒ → Release quick-release fasteners -2- and -3- and detach rear section of noise insulation.
• ‒ Detach front exhaust system clamp.
• ‒ Push clamp back to separate exhaust system.

• ‒ Unclipcaps.
• ‒ → Screw out bolts -arrows- and detach air cleaner cover.

• ‒ → Screw out bolts -arrows-.
• ‒ Remove air duct -1- and -2-.
• ‒ Remove air intake duct to air cleaner.

• ‒ → Disconnect vent hose -2- from air cleaner housing.
• ‒ Unplug electrical connector -4- from air-mass meter.
• ‒ Detach EGR valve -N18 from air cleaner housing -3-.
• ‒ Detach wiring harness from air cleaner housing -arrow-.
• ‒ Pull off air hose -5-.
• ‒ Screw out bolt -1-.
• ‒ Detach air cleaner housing.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox:

• ‒ Remove EGR system cooler =>Page 26-48.

All models:

• ‒ → Screw out turbocharger/catalytic converter bolts -arrows-.
• ‒ Raise vehicle approx 550 mm, measured at bottom edge of bumper.
• ‒ Turn exhaust pipe to left slightly, at the same time lifting it slightly.

• ‒ → To prevent damage, place a cloth at the front right over the lock carrier.
• ‒ Place catalytic converter decoupling element on cloth.
• ‒ To separate flange connection, screw out nuts -arrows-.
• ‒ Take out catalytic converter and exhaust pipe separately.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Replace gaskets and self-locking nuts.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox:

• ‒ Install EGR system cooler =>Page 26-53.

All models:

• ‒ Perform stress-free alignment of exhaust system => Page 26-23.
