Removing

• ‒ → Release quick release fasteners -A- and -B- and take off front noise insulation.

Vehicles with air conditioner:

Note:

Mark direction of rotation of belt with chalk or felt pen before removing ribbed belt. If the belt rotates in the wrong direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.

• ‒ → Loosen bolts securing ribbed belt tensioner for A/C compressor -arrows-. Slacken belt and remove.
• ‒ Detach A/C compressor from bracket and secure to body with wire.

All models:

• ‒ → Remove right air intake hose -arrows-.

• ‒ → Remove oil return pipe from cylinder block -arrows-.

• ‒ → Loosen bolts for turbocharger -arrows-. Leave the two front bolts loosely in place.

• ‒ → Remove engine cover panel -arrows-.

• ‒ Remove air intake duct to air cleaner.
• ‒ → Disconnect hose -3- from air cleaner housing.
• ‒ Unplug connector -1- at air mass meter.
• ‒ Remove wiring harness from air filter housing -arrow-.
• ‒ Remove air intake hose -4-.
• ‒ Unscrew bolt -2-.
• ‒ Take off air filter housing.

• ‒ Detach air intake from front of turbocharger.

• ‒ → Detach oil feed line -1- at turbocharger.
• ‒ Disconnect hose -2- at pressure unit for boost pressure control.
• ‒ Disconnect hose -3- from turbocharger.
• ‒ Unscrew turbocharger/catalytic converter nuts-arrows-.

• ‒ Completely remove turbocharger/exhaust manifold bolts and detach turbocharger.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Notes:

• ◆ Fill turbocharger with engine oil via oil supply connection.
• ◆ Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (same as original equipment):

• ◆ Always replace seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
• ◆ Charge air system must be free of leaks.
• ◆ After installing turbocharger, run engine for approx. 1 minute at idling speed; do not rev. up immediately. This ensures the turbocharger is properly lubricated.

• ‒ Check oil level .
