Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch -F1-

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14-

t	Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527B-

t	Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-

Procedure l  Oil level OK l  Engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C. –  Release quick-release fasteners and remove engine cover panel -arrows-.

–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank -2--arrows-. –  Unplug electrical connector for coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- at expansion tank (bottom) and move expansion tank to one side (coolant hoses -1 and 3- remain attached).

–  Unplug electrical connector on oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Remove oil pressure switch -F1--arrow-

–  Connect oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14- to bore for oil pressure switch. –  Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-. –  Connect brown wire of oil pressure tester to earth (“–”). Checking oil pressure switch –  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B--item 1- with adapter leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to oil pressure switch and battery positive (“+”). l  LED should not light up. –  Renew oil pressure switch if LED lights up. –  Start engine.   Note Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting. l  LED should light up at 1.2 ... 1.6 bar. –  Renew oil pressure switch if LED does not light up. Checking oil pressure –  Start engine. l  Minimum oil pressure at 2000 rpm: 1.3 bar. l  Minimum oil pressure at 3500 rpm: 3.5 … 4.5 bar. Assembling Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note Renew seal when installing oil pressure switch. Tightening torque
