Connecting fault reader V.A.G 1551 and selecting functions

Preconditions:

Voltage supply and engine fuses OK

  • ‒ → Open rear ashtray (centre console) and remove cover for diagnostic connector.

  • ‒ → Connect fault reader to diagnostic connector with diagnostic lead V.A.G 1551/3.
 
→ Display:
V.A.G self-diagnosis    HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Flash code output*

    *)    Displays appear alternately

  • ‒ If there is no readout on the display, check the voltage supply according to the faultfinding program for diagnostic lines in the "Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault-finding and fitting locations" binder.
  • ‒ Switch ignition on.
  • ‒ Switch on printer with PRINT key (indicator lamp in key illuminates).
  • ‒ Press key 1 for "Rapid data transfer" mode.
 
→ Display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Enter address word XX

Note:

When the address word 00 has been entered and confirmed with the Q button, an automatic test sequence is implemented (fault memory interrogation of all systems with rapid data transfer).

  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 1
    (01 is used to enter the address word "Engine electronics")
 
→ Display:
Rapid data transfer    Q
01 - Engine electronics
  • ‒ Confirm entry with Q key.
 
→ Display:
Rapid data transfer
Tester sends address word 01

→ If one of these messages appears on the display then perform faultfinding according to the faultfinding program for diagnostic lines in the "Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault-finding and fitting locations" binder.
