Testing double spark ignition system with two ignition coils (ADR engine)
Testing actuation of power output stage -N122
  • ‒ Disconnect the connectors from all the injectors. It is important to ensure that no fuel is injected during the test, as this would damage the catalytic converter.
  • ‒ Disconnect plug from output stage.

  • ‒ → Connect diode lamp V.A.G 1527 in turn to contact 1 and engine ground, followed by contact 15 and engine ground.
  • ‒ Operate starter each time- the diode test lamp should flash during both these tests (one short pulse for each engine revolution).
  • ‒ → If diode test lamp does not flash, check wiring between 3-pin connector and Motronic control unit -J220 according to current flow diagram for continuity and short circuits and if necessary eliminate open circuit or short circuit.

  • ‒ If the wiring is OK and the diode lamp does not flash, replace the Motronic control unit -J220.
