Motronic Injection and Ignition System (4 cyl.)>06.96
Testing individual coil ignition system (AEB engine)
Testing primary wiring and voltage supply

96-833

Test requirements:

Fuse -S32 OK.

  • ‒ Switch ignition on.
  • ‒ → Connect diode lamp between each contact of the 4-pin connector at the output stages and engine ground.
The diode lamp must light up for all contacts.

Note:

The primary voltage supply is measured via fuse -S32 and the primary coil of the ignition coil.

  • ‒ → If no fault is present in this wiring, test for open circuit in wiring between contact 15 of connector for relevant ignition coil and fuse -S32 and in voltage supply to fuse according to current flow diagram.

Notes:

  • ◆ A measurement of the primary resistance of the ignition coils is not normally necessary when using this test method (primary resistance about 0.4 ... 0.6 ω, measured between contact 1 and 15 of ignition coil).
  • ◆ A high voltage blocking diode is installed in the secondary circuit of the ignition coil. For this reason, it is not possible to carry out a resistance measurement of the secondary coil using conventional testers.
