Checking signal from coolant temperature display sender G2 > < Checking signal from speedometer sender G22

If there is a fault with fuel gauge sender on instrument cluster, check whether signal is present at instrument cluster.
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526C-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598A-
t  Adapter -V.A.G 1598/25-
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- with diagnostic lead -VAS 5051/5A-

   
Procedure
l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- with diagnosis lead -VAS 5051/5A- connected, vehicle self-diagnosis and vehicle system “17 - instrument cluster” selected → Electrical system, self-diagnosis; Rep. Gr.01.

Display on -VAS 5051-:
–  Select function “08 - Reading measured value block” from list -1-.
  A01-0122
Display on -VAS 5051-:
–  Use keypad -2- to enter 2 for “display group 002” and confirm by touching Q key.

  A01-0130
Display on -VAS 5051-:
–  Check readout in display zone -2-.
l  Specification: approx. fuel level
If the fuel level is indicated, but not displayed on fuel gauge -G1-, the instrument cluster is defective.
–  Renew instrument cluster → Chapter.
If the fuel level is not indicated:
–  Remove instrument cluster → Chapter.
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598A- with adapter -V.A.G 1598/25- to multi-pin connector, 32-pin, blue.
–  Connect multimeter to measure resistance between sockets “5” and “7”.
l  Specification: → Rep. Gr.20.
If reading does not match specification:
–  Check wiring connection between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sender according to current flow diagram.
If no fault is found in wiring:
–  Check fuel gauge sender -G- → Rep. Gr.20.
