Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-
  W00-0554
Removing and installing
1 - Bolt, 5 Nm
2 - Crash sensor for side airbag (front)
q   Driver side: side airbag crash sensor on driver side -G179-
q   Passenger side: side airbag crash sensor on front passenger side -G180-
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Observe precautions for crash sensors (pressure sensors) for side airbags (front) → Chapter.
Removing
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth wire at battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove door trim → Chapter.
–  Unplug electrical connector -4- at crash sensor.
–  Remove bolts -1- and -3-.
–  Detach crash sensor for side airbag (front).
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, note the following:
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
Make sure nobody is in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
–  Connect battery earth strap.
–  Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
3 - Bolt, 5 Nm
4 - Electrical connector
