Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle diagnostic tester
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-

  WARNING
Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
1 - Crash sensor for side airbag (front)
t  Removing:
  Note
Illustration shows front crash sensor for side airbag on passenger's side. Removal and installation on driver's side are performed in the same manner.
–  Disconnect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove B-pillar trim (bottom) → Chapter.
–  Unfasten seat belt; complete removal is not necessary → Chapter.
–  Take out foam section of B-pillar trim (bottom).
–  Loosen the two bolts -2- at crash sensor from outside.
–  Release tab at yellow connector -3- and unplug connector.
t  Installing:
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
Make sure nobody is in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
–  Connect battery earth strap → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
t  Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
t  If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
2 - Bolts (2x)
q   Tightening torque: 9 Nm
3 - Connector
4 - B-pillar
