Sealing off burner element from housing with horizontally installed auxiliary heater
Sealing off burner element from housing with horizontally installed auxiliary heater
  Note
t  Under certain operating conditions, horizontal installation of the auxiliary heater may lead to residual unburnt fuel emerging from the auxiliary heater at the joint between the burner element, the housing with heat exchanger and the top part of the housing with intake air duct. This residual fuel may come into contact with the corrugated exhaust pipe of the auxiliary heater and evaporate during auxiliary heater operation, thus leading to complaints about smoke and diesel odour in auxiliary heating mode.
t  Vehicles manufactured since 01.04 have been fitted with this seal at the factory.
t  To prevent the emergence of residual fuel, the joint between the housing with heat exchanger and the top part of the housing with intake air duct is also to be sealed in addition to the joint between the burner element and the housing with heat exchanger → Chapter.

–  Throughly clean areas -A- at the burner element and -B- at the housing with heat exchanger to remove dirt as well as residual fuel and adhesive.
–  Coat the cleaned areas -A- and -B- with a thin layer of adhesive sealant (e.g. D 176 404 A2).
–  Install the burner element in the housing with heat exchanger → Chapter.
–  Remove any adhesive sealant which oozed out on assembly.
