Fault table for faults with fault code up to "01336” > < Interrogating fault memory
Auxiliary heater fault table
Auxiliary heater fault table
  Note
t  Listed in the following in ascending order of fault codes are all faults which can be detected by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and displayed on the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-.
t  A maximum of 3 faults can be stored in the fault memory. In the event of a further fault, the fault which occurred first is erased. The ambient conditions under which it occurred are stored for each fault and can be interrogated by way of the function “Reading measured value block 08, display groups 012 to 014” → Chapter.
t  If faults only occur sporadically or if the fault memory was not erased following fault rectification, these faults are shown as “sporadic faults” (display “/ SP”) (content of fault memory is retained until memory is erased, “non-volatile memory”).
t  The fault table may also indicate the type of fault (one of the displays marked with a appears in addition to the component affected or the “Info” display).
t  On completion of repair work, the fault memory is always to be interrogated again using the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- and erased.
t  Before replacing components, always use the current flow diagram to check the corresponding positive and earth connections (terminals 30 and 31) as well as all connectors (between the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and the component identified as being defective).
t  In the case of sporadic faults, always pay particular attention to the possibility of loose contacts in the connectors.
t  After replacing an auxiliary heater component, the fault memory is always to be read out and any faults displayed rectified and erased (functions 02 and 05).
t  If no fault is found despite problems with the auxiliary heater, implement the functions “Final control diagnosis 03” and “Reading measured value block 08”.
t  If certain faults occur several times in succession without intermediate trouble-free operation, the auxiliary heater is interlocked once the maximum number stored in the fault counter in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- has been exceeded. Auxiliary heater reactivation is not possible until the fault memory has been erased.
t  If there is no proper flame formation in the auxiliary heater following several attempted starts or if the fault “Flame interruption” occurs several times in succession without intermediate trouble-free operation (more than approx. 70 ml (cm3) of fuel conveyed into the auxiliary heater), the auxiliary heater is interlocked (possibly too much fuel in the auxiliary heater). The auxiliary heater cannot be reactivated until the fault memory has been read out and erased.
t  Checking auxiliary heater operation → Chapter
