Removing and installing additional ATF filter
Removing and installing additional ATF filter
  Note
t  Rules for cleanliness when working on the automatic gearbox → Chapter.
t  General repair instructions → Chapter.
t  Before fitting a replacement gearbox, always blow through the ATF cooler and ATF pipes with compressed air (not more than 10 bar) → Chapter and renew the additional ATF filter. If the ATF which emerges during cleaning is very dirty, the pipes and ATF cooler must additionally be flushed out with clean ATF.
t  To install, first press ATF pipes into cooler by hand as far as stop, then bolt on.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

Removing
–  On vehicles fitted with auxiliary heater, remove screws -arrows- securing exhaust pipe of auxiliary/ additional heater to noise insulation.

–  Release fasteners -1 ... 3- and remove noise insulation panels (front and rear).

–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.
–  Unscrew union nut -3- and disconnect ATF pipe leading to additional ATF filter.
–  Unscrew nuts -1- and -2-.

–  Remove bolt -arrow- and detach ATF pipes from gearbox.

–  Unbolt additional ATF filter from gearbox -arrows-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
–  To install, first press additional ATF filter with new O-ring into gearbox by hand as far as stop, then bolt on.
–  Check and top up ATF level → Chapter.
