Renewing grooved ball bearing for input shaft with gearbox removed (gearbox remains assembled) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tube -32 - 109-

t  Tapered roller bearing puller -V.A.G 1582- t  Adapter -V.A.G 1582/12- t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1- t  Locking fluid -AMV 185 101 A1-

–  Slacken off bolt -1- and remove leaf spring -2-. –  Remove clutch release lever -3- with release bearing.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove retaining piece -1-. –  Fit a thin insulating hose or shrink hose onto input shaft splines. –  Pull guide sleeve -2- out of gearbox housing. –  Remove intermediate piece -3- from gearbox housing.

–  Lever off O-ring -arrow- using a small screwdriver.

–  Then remove circlip -arrow- in front of grooved ball bearing for input shaft.

–  Pull grooved ball bearing for input shaft out of gearbox housing. –  Then push new grooved ball bearing onto input shaft. Installation position: The sealed side of the ball cage faces the gearbox housing.

–  Drive grooved ball bearing onto stop in gearbox housing.

–  Then install circlip -arrow- in front of grooved ball bearing for input shaft.   Note If necessary, pull input shaft out of gearbox housing as far as stop by hand so that the circlip can be fitted properly.

–  Lubricate new O-ring -arrow- with gear oil before fitting into circumferential groove on gearbox housing. –  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip of oil seal in guide sleeve half-full with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-. –  Lightly oil outer circumference of guide sleeve.

–  Push guide sleeve -2- over input shaft and into gearbox housing. –  Remove insulating hose/shrink hose. –  Fit retaining piece -1-. –  Clean threads of bolts -arrows- with a wire brush. Then insert bolts with locking fluid -AMV 185 101 A1- and tighten to 24 Nm. –  Insert intermediate piece -3- in gearbox housing.

Only on Audi A4 and Audi Cabriolet: –  Before installing clutch release lever -3-, apply a thin coat of copper grease to contact surface for operating rod of clutch slave cylinder. Continued for all models: –  Install clutch release lever together with release bearing. –  Clean thread of bolt -1- with a wire brush. –  Position leaf spring -2- onto bolt -1-. –  Then insert bolt -1- with locking fluid -AMV 185 101 A1- and tighten to 24 Nm.
