  Note
Distance -E- refers to the length for this final drive gear set which has to be set on master gauge -VW 385/30-.
1 - “197” number of matched pair of gears
2 - Distance “A1” is the distance measured between centre axis of crown wheel and reverse side of pinion gear. This distance is required for determining shim “S5” for positioning tapered roller bearing inner race → Chapter.
3 - Distance “A2” is not required when adjusting the final drive gear set.
4 - Distance “E”: Actual distance between centre axis of crown wheel and face of pinion shaft at point of smoothest meshing for this particular final drive gear set; in example: distance “E” = 62.50 mm. Distance “E” is set on master gauge -VW 385/30-.
5 - Distance “F” is not required when adjusting the final drive gear set.
