Removing and installing cylinder head cover

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

t  Puller -T40039-

Removing
–  Lift off engine cover -arrows-.
  A10-0974
–  If fitted, detach cover -1- on right of engine compartment.

–  Disengage activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80--item 1- at air duct.
–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove air duct -2-.

–  Remove toothed belt cover (top section) -arrows-.

–  Disconnect air pipe -arrow-.

–  Disconnect air pipes -1- and -2-.
–  Detach hose on underside of air pipe and take out air pipe.

–  Remove bolts -1-.
–  Unplug electrical connectors -2- from ignition coils and move wiring duct clear.

–  Disconnect crankcase breather hose -1- at cylinder head cover.
–  Remove ignition coils -2-.

  A15-0654
Use puller -T40039- to remove ignition coils.
  A28-0074
–  Unscrew cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -16 ... 1-.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
  Note
t  Renew cylinder head cover gasket if damaged.
t  If seal for bolt is damaged, renew bolt.
t  Renew O-ring.
–  Tighten bolts for cylinder head cover in the sequence -1 ... 16-.

–  Install top section of toothed belt cover (make sure it engages securely on centre section of toothed belt cover).
–  Secure top section of toothed belt cover -arrows-.
Tightening torques
