Adjusting headlights for driving on the left or right side of the road (rest-of-the-world vehicles with adjustment lever)
Adjusting headlights for driving on the left or right side of the road (rest-of-the-world vehicles with adjustment lever)
When travelling in countries where the vehicle is to be driven on the other side of the road, both headlights must be adjusted to prevent dazzling by the asymmetric dipped beam.
Procedure
  WARNING
High voltage! Danger to life!
Safety precautions when handling gas discharge lamps → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.94.
Headlight (left-side):
–  Remove top section of washer fluid reservoir and power steering reservoir → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.6 ltr. and 2.0 ltr. MPI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.8 ltr. turbo engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. TFSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.4 ltr. or 3.0 ltr. MPI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 3.2 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 4.2 ltr. MPI engine - Audi S4:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 8-cyl. 4.2 ltr. FSI engine - Audi RS4:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 4-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 6-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
   
Both sides (continued):
–  Unscrew bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Detach cover for dipped beam from headlight housing -arrow-.

–  Check position of adjustment lever -1- at both headlights.
l  Lever down = right-hand drive traffic
l  Lever up = left-hand drive traffic
–  If necessary, swivel lever until it engages in desired position -arrow-.
–  Close housing cover.
