Removing and installing rain and light sensor -G397-   Note When removing the rain and light sensor -G397- a foil must be peeled off. This must be renewed before the sensor is re-installed. –  Exterior mirror removed → Rep. gr.68 t  Retaining plate -1- t  Rain and light sensor -G397--2- t  Retaining clip -3-.

Unclipping retaining clip –  Unplug connector. –  Use a small screwdriver or similar tool to press retaining clip -2- outwards at points marked by -arrows-. –  Detach retaining clip -2- from mirror base -1-. –  Take rain and light sensor -G397--3- out of mirror base. –  Sensor foil will remain attached to the windscreen. –  If you are re-installing the same windscreen, the sensor foil has to be completely removed from the glass. –  Clean glass surface using cleaning solution D 009 401 04. Installing rain and light sensor -G397-   Caution If the same rain and light sensor -G397-is re-installed, the sensor foil must be renewed. –  Also remove any remaining sensor foil residues from the rain and light sensor -G397-.

–  Carefully peel sensor foil -2- off rain and light sensor -G397--1-. –  Clean glass surface using cleaning solution D 009 401 04.   Caution The surface on the sensor must be completely free of foil remnants.

–  Detach silicone paper -3- from sensor foil -2-. –  Transparent protective film -1- remains on the sensor foil for the time being in order to facilitate installation.

–  Place the sensor foil with the aid of the transparent protective film -1- on the rain and light sensor -G397--2-.

–  Press the sensor foil as shown through the protective film -1- onto the rain and light sensor -G397--2-, making sure there are no air bubbles.

–  Peel transparent protective film -1- off sensor foil -2-.

–  Spray the sensor foil -1- over its entire surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 and insert the rain and light sensor -G397- in the mirror base.   Caution In order to function correctly, the rain and light sensor -G397- must be clear and there must be no air bubbles between it and the windscreen. –  Press retaining clip for sensor onto mirror base. Renewing rain and light sensor -G397-   Note To remove the sensor please proceed as already described. –  Remove any remaining foil residues from old rain and light sensor -G397- completely from windscreen.

–  Clean contact surface on windscreen using cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

–  Lightly compress ribbed tabs -arrows- on protective cap -1- and detach protective cap from rain and light sensor -G397--2-. –  Spray sensor foil -1- over its entire surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 and insert rain and light sensor -G397- in mirror base. –  Attach rain and light sensor -G397- to windscreen (without air bubbles) and press retaining clip onto mirror base.   Caution In order to function correctly, the rain and light sensor -G397- must be clear and there must be no air bubbles between it and the windscreen.
