Removing and installing outer three-point seat belts (rear)
Removing and installing outer three-point seat belts (rear)
  Note
Removal and installation are identical on the left and right.
Removing
–  Remove outer belt end fitting (rear) → Chapter.
–  Remove rear shelf → Chapter.
–  Remove outer belt guide (rear) → Chapter.
   
–  Detach noise insulation -2- for automatic belt retractor.
Country-specific version with rear belt tensioner igniter:
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Observe disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  With ignition switched on, disconnect battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.

–  Unplug electrical connector.
–  To do so, use a small screwdriver -1- to release connector locking element -3- and unplug electrical connector -2-.
All vehicles (continued):
–  Remove two fasteners for luggage compartment side trim → Chapter.

–  Press luggage compartment side trim -4- to side at top in area of three-point seat belt and slacken bolt -1-.
–  Disengage three-point seat belt -3--arrow-.
Installing
–  If components of the belt system are removed following an accident, renew the securing bolts for the belt system.
–  Insert three-point seat belt with locating element in mounting and tighten bolt.
Country-specific version with rear belt tensioner igniter:
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. plugging in the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
  Note
t  Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.
t  Make sure that wiring is not trapped.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
All vehicles (continued):
Perform remaining installation in reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque → Chapter
