„Deluxe“ versions of air conditioning unit and air distribution housing
Different versions fitted only with air conditioner of „Deluxe“ type (up to and as of 08.2007, gradual conversion)
  Note
t  No modifications were made in 2007 to the air conditioning unit and the air distribution housing of the air conditioner „Basic“ type.

t  Air conditioning units of the „Deluxe“ type with an air distribution housing with optimised air routing were gradually introduced as of 08.2007 (type „2“) → Electronic parts catalogue. These two versions of the air conditioning unit can be distinguished from the outside by the part number -B- on the sticker -A-.
t  The part number -B- on the sticker -A- can be read for example with the CD changer removed (depending on vehicle equipment) → Electrical system; Rep. gr.90.
t  Pay attention to correct assignment and adaption of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- to the air conditioning unit (type „1“ or „2“, with and without optimised air routing in the air distribution housing) → Chapter (Removing and installing air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-).
„Deluxe“ versions of air conditioning unit:
t  Air conditioning unit for left-hand drive vehicles (with part number „8K1 820 005“) and for right-hand drive vehicles (with part number „8K2 820 005“) up to index „S“ in each case (version „1“ without optimised routing of air flow in air distribution housing)
t  Air conditioning unit for left-hand drive vehicles (with part number „8K1 820 005“) and for right-hand drive vehicles (with part number „8K2 820 005“) as of index „AB“ in each case (type „2“ with optimized air routing in the air distribution housing).

t  When installed, the different versions of the air conditioning unit (with and without optimised air routing in the air distribution housing) can be distinguished with the footwell vents removed and the footwell flap -H- open (left or right) by way of the breakaway edge -G-. The breakaway edge -G- is only provided on type „2“.
t  Only air distribution housings -A- of type „2“ (with optimised air routing) are available as replacement parts → Electronic parts catalogue.
Distinguishing features of types „1“ and „2“ of the air distribution housing -A-
