Diverting fuel (for auxiliary heater) from fuel tank |
WARNING Observe the applicable rules for cleanliness, take the appropriate precautions and heed the relevant safety measures when working on open fuel systems → Fuel supply system; Rep. Gr.20. |
|
Note t
| For auxiliary heater operation, fuel is diverted from a steady zone in the reservoir housing of the fuel delivery unit in the fuel tank → Fuel supply system; Rep. Gr.20. |
t
| For “auxiliary heater” operation, the fuel pump (pre-supply pump) -G6- in the reservoir housing is actuated intermittently at the start of, during and at the end of auxiliary heater operation to re-fill the reservoir housing and thus prevent it being completely drained with the engine stopped. This also stops the metering pump -V54- drawing in air/fuel vapour instead of liquid fuel if the vehicle is awkwardly positioned with the fuel tank not completely full. |
t
| Vehicles with no auxiliary heater are generally fitted with a fuel delivery unit with no additional connection for “auxiliary heater” fuel diversion and with no suction pipe in the fuel tank → Electronic parts catalogue. |
t
| Butt-joint the fuel pipes and secure with clips at the marked locations. |
t
| Filling the fuel pipe to the metering pump -V54- with fuel (bleeding) → Chapter |
