1 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renewing: engine codes CAMA, CAMB, CCLA, CCWA, CCWB, CGKA, CGKB → Chapter, engine code CAPA → Chapter
q   Identification → Fig.
q   Installation position: part number must face cylinder head
q   If renewed, change engine oil and coolant
2 - Bolt
q   Tightening torque → Rep. gr.23
3 - Bolt
q   70 Nm
4 - Toothed belt drive sprocket for high-pressure pump
q   Removing and installing → Rep. gr.23
5 - Toothed belt cover (rear)
6 - Camshaft oil seal
q   Renewing → Chapter
7 - Seals
q   Renew
8 - Banjo bolt
q   Tightening torque → Item
9 - Fuel rail
q   Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter
q   Do not attempt to bend high-pressure pipes to a different shape
q   Installing high-pressure pipes → Rep. gr.23
10 - Bolt
q   23 Nm
11 - Coolant pipe
12 - Bolt
q   Loosening sequence: engine codes CAMA, CAMB, CCLA, CCWA, CCWB, CGKA, CGKB → Anchor, engine code CAPA → Anchor
q   Renew
q   Tightening torque and sequence → Fig.
13 - Engine lifting eye

q   23 Nm
15 - Bolt M6
q   9 Nm
16 - Cylinder head
q   To prevent damage to glow plugs, always place cylinder head on a soft foam surface after removal.
q   Removing: engine codes CAMA, CAMB, CCLA, CCWA, CCWB, CGKA, CGKB → Chapter, engine code CAPA → Chapter
q   Checking for distortion → Fig.
q   Cylinder heads must not be reworked on TDI engines
q   Installing → Chapter
q   If renewed, change coolant and engine oil

   
Checking cylinder head for distortion
–  Use straight edge and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head for distortion at several points.
l  Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm.

  Note
The gaskets for the left and right cylinder heads have different shapes and cannot be interchanged.

Cylinder head - tightening torque and sequence
–  Renew cylinder head bolts.
–  Tighten bolts in the sequence -1 ... 8- in 5 stages as follows:
1.  Screw in by hand until they make contact.
2.  Tighten to 35 Nm.
3.  Tighten to 60 Nm.
4.  Turn 90° further.
5.  Turn 90° further.
