Removing and installing coolant pump Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Pin wrench -3212- Removing –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Remove coolant pipes (front left) → Chapter.

–  Remove bolts -1- and -2- and take off coolant pipes. –  Detach poly V-belt from air conditioner compressor, but do not remove completely: t  → Chapter „Removing and installing poly V-belt - vehicles with hydraulic power steering“. t  → Chapter „Removing and installing poly V-belt - vehicles with electromechanical power steering“.

–  Lift retaining clip -arrow- and detach coolant hose from coolant pipe (front).

–  Remove bolts for coolant pump pulley (counterhold with pin wrench -3212-).

Vehicles with hydraulic power steering: –  Remove bolts for power steering pump pulley (counterhold with pin wrench -3212-).

Vehicles with electromechanical power steering: –  Detach coolant valve for cylinder head -N489--arrow- from bracket and move it clear to the side.

–  Disconnect vacuum hose -1-. All vehicles (continued):   Note Place a cloth underneath to catch escaping coolant. –  Remove bolts -arrows- for coolant pump and detach coolant pump to the side. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Coolant pump, thermostat and connection - exploded view“ –  Clean surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease. –  Install poly V-belt pulley for power steering pump → Rep. gr.48.

–  Connect coolant hose with plug-in connector → Fig.. –  Install poly V-belt: t  → Chapter „Removing and installing poly V-belt - vehicles with hydraulic power steering“. t  → Chapter „Removing and installing poly V-belt - vehicles with electromechanical power steering“. –  Install coolant pipes → Chapter. –  Fill up with coolant → Anchor.
