Pinch off intake line and return line using 3094 hose clamps.
^
Unbolt line from expansion hose (arrow), counterhold hex bolt of expansion hose.
^
Bolt VAG1402 pressure gauge to the part of the expansion hose that leads to the power steering pump.
^
Close stopcock on the pressure gauge (lever faces toward left).
^
Remove 3094 hose clamps.
^
If necessary, add fluid to the power steering fluid reservoir.
Check pressure:
Note: To avoid damaging the pump, note the following:

Do not allow the engine to run more than 10 seconds during the test.

Start the engine without depressing the accelerator pedal and let the engine idle.
^
Make a note of the pressure immediately after starting the engine when it is idling (this may require a second technician).
^
As the pressure drops during the check, the highest pressure is definitive.
Specification: 110 - 120 bar
^
Turn engine off.
If specification is not obtained, replace the power steering pump.
^
Check fluid level.
