Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

Accumulator, removing and installing

-

Remove front bumper

-

Remove left headlight

-

Unplug connector from the ABS hydraulic unit.

-

Discharge A/C refrigerant system.

-

Disconnect coolant hoses -A-.
Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)

Loosen hexagon nut -B-.

-

Remove hexagon nut -C-.

-

Pull accumulator forward and release from catch.

CAUTION!

-

Keep accumulator closed for as long as possible; do not remove caps until just before installing. The accumulator contains a desiccant which will
become saturated with moisture in a short time if accumulator is left open. This makes the accumulator unusable.

Immediately plug open connections on A/C lines to prevent dirt and moisture contamination.

NOTE:

-

Replace accumulator.

Tightening torques of refrigerant lines and O-rings.

Removed accumulator contains refrigerant oil which must be restored to the refrigerant system (with the new accumulator).

The quantity of oil can be correctly adjusted depending on the circumstances. If for example, the accumulator was only damaged in an accident
(no refrigerant flowed out and no moisture or dirt got into the refrigerant system), the A/C system can be serviced without any extensive repair
work simply by matching the weight of the old and new accumulators. Pour refrigerant oil into the new accumulator until it has reached the same
weight of the damaged component.
