Air Bag System
Airbag Modules, Replacing After An Accident
NOTE:
-
Airbag control module can be used for triggering side curtain airbag and/or belt tensioner up to three times.
-
Fault display "Control module defective" appears after triggering for third time.
Airbag control module must be replaced:
-
If drivers/front passengers airbag has been triggered
-
After side curtain airbag has been triggered three times
-
If housing is damaged
-
In event of tunnel deformation within 200 mm radius of control module
Always replace following:
-
All triggered airbag modules
-
Battery Switch-off Relay J655
Additionally, if front passengers airbag has been triggered:
-
Instrument panel
-
Supports for passengers airbag module which have been bent out of shape (must not be bent back into shape).
-
Both front airbag sensors at front end
-
Lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor is deformed
Additionally, if drivers airbag has been triggered:
-
Coil connector with slip ring
-
Both front airbag sensors at front end
-
Lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor is deformed
Additionally, if side airbag has been triggered:
-
Lateral acceleration sensor for triggered side
-
Non - triggered lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor is deformed
Additionally, if side curtain airbag has been triggered:
-
Lateral acceleration sensor for triggered side
-
A, B, C and D-pillar trim
-
Non - triggered lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor is deformed
Additionally:
-
All seat belts with triggered belt tensioners
A - Airbag control module triggered:
-
Connect Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "15 - Airbag" from list. Ignition must be on.
Front belt tensioner:
-
Read measured value block, display group 001.
Triggered belt tensioners can be seen from display "too great"
Rear belt tensioner (USA):
-
Read measured value block, display group 002.
