Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair

Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring, Removing And Installing 

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required 

-

Special Screwdriver T40056A

Removing 

NOTE:  Steering must be in center position (wheels in straight ahead position) when removing and installing return spring with slip ring.

-

Lower steering wheel as far as possible to rear, making use of the full range of the steering column adjuster.

-

Remove airbag unit.

-

Remove steering wheel.

-

Remove gap cover - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.

-

Remove screws - 4 - using Special Screwdriver T40056A.

-

If present, remove screws - 6 - and remove handle trim - 5 - on mechanical steering column adjustment handle.

-

Remove screws - 7 -.

-

Separate upper trim - 2 - for steering column switch from lower trim - 3 - and detach both sections.

-

If present, disconnect electrical connector on lower trim.

-

Disconnect electrical connector (top) at Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring.
