Control Arm: Service and Repair
Lower Control Arm

Lower Control Arm

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

‹› If lower control arm is replaced, axle alignment should be performed after installation. Refer to => [ Work Procedure, Vehicle Alignment

Overview ] See: Alignment/Service and Repair/Work Procedure, Vehicle Alignment Overview.

With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] See: Service and
Repair/Procedures/Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

Remove wheel.

-

If equipped, remove stone impact protection from lower control arm. 

-

Mark eccentric bolt position - 3 - to subframe and remove.

Remove bolt - 2 -.

-

Remove bolt - 1 - through opening - arrow  - in subframe. Pry bolt out of subframe with a small screwdriver.

Pry lower control arm - 4 - out of subframe with a screwdriver.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

‹› Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. Only tighten suspension bolts when vehicle is in curb weight or control position. 

‹› Wheel bearing, lifting to curb weight position on vehicles with coil springs, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, with Coil Spring, Lifting to Curb Weight

Position ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures/Rear Suspension/Wheel Bearing, with Coil Spring, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.

‹› For vehicles with air spring suspension, lift wheel suspension in control position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to

Curb Weight Position ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures/Rear Suspension/Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight
Position.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Lower Control Arm, Level Control System Sensor, Upper Control Arms and Tie Rod Assembly Overview ]

On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] See: Service and
