Voice Activation Module: Service and Repair
Speech Input Control Module
The Speech Input Control Module (J507) is located in Radio (R) (MMI) behind the right luggage compartment side trim.

Switch off all electrical consumers.

Remove ignition key.

If control module is replaced, select the function "Replace " of respective control module in "Guided Fault Finding".
Use Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051) to do so.
Removing
-
Remove Radio (R) (MMI) => [ Radio ] See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Radio, Stereo, and Compact Disc/Service and Repair/Radio.

Open cover - 2 - of Radio (R) and fold it down - arrow -.

Carefully pull the Speech Input Control Module (J507) - 1 - out of Radio (R) in direction of arrow.
Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Make sure that harness connector between Speech Input Control Module (J507) and Radio (R) engages correctly in Radio (R).
Perform the following function test:

Switch on the Radio (R).

Briefly depress PTT button on multifunction steering wheel.
A "Ping" tone sounds, the speech input system is active.

Say the command "Help"
Since the Radio (R) is active, the speech dialog system responds with "Commands for the radio are...".
Depending on the equipment, other functions can be selected:

If a telephone is installed, say "telephone".
The speech dialog system switches to the telephone mode.

Press PPT button for approx. 1 second.
