Canister Purge Control Valve: Testing and Inspection
With Manufacturer's Scan Tool
EVAP canister purge regulator valve - N80-, checking
Testing for leaks
When there is no electrical supply, valve remains closed.
-
Disconnect hoses from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
-
Connect auxiliary hose to one connection of valve -N80-.

Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or VAG 1551 Scan Tool and select engine electronics control unit with
"Address word" 01. For this purpose, ignition must be switched on.

Start output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) and select EVAP canister purge regulator valve - N80-.
Indicated on display
Output Diagnostic Test Mode
->
EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80-
Solenoid valve must click ... .
.. and should open and close (check by blowing into auxiliary hose).
If the valve does not click:
-
Electrically check EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
If the valve does not open and close correctly:
-
Replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve - N80-.
Electrical check for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-

Disconnect hose from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
-
Measure resistance between contacts on valve using hand-held multimeter VAG 1526.
Specified value: 22...30 Ohms
If specification is not attained:

Replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve - N80-.
If specified value is attained:
-
Check voltage supply.
Checking solenoid valve voltage supply
NOTE: The EVAP canister purge regulator valve receives its power supply via the fuel pump relay.

Check fuse for EVAP canister purge regulator valve.
If the fuse is OK:
-
Disconnect hose from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
