Connect diode test lamp VAG 1527 between engine Ground and socket 1 on connector.

Operate starter.
Diode test lamp should illuminate.
If the diode test lamp does not illuminate:

Check wiring from socket 1 via fuse to fuel pump relay for continuity, repair, if necessary.

If wiring is OK, test fuel pump relay.
-
If diode test lamp illuminates check actuation.
Checking EVAP canister purge regulator valve actuation

Connect the VAG 1527 diode test lamp between socket 1 (positive) and socket 2 in connector.

Start output DTM and select Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-.
Diode test lamp should flash.

If diode test lamp does not light or is continuously illuminated, check wiring connection.
Checking wiring

Connect test box VAG 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control control; do not connect engine control module.
If the diode test lamp is continuously illuminated:

Check following wiring for short to Ground.

If the diode test lamp does not flash:
-
Check for open circuit and short to positive or open circuit in following wiring connection.

Test box VAG 1598/31 socket

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohm
-
If necessary, correct short circuit to Ground or open circuit.
