V17 or earlier is to be installed. Operating software V18 is to be retrofitted.

For how to read off the software status, please refer to:

IDC 004/01-1 "Operating software for navigation system CD 'BMW Navigation V17'"

Install new navigation computer in vehicle. Please refer to the Electronic Parts Catalogue
(EPC).

Make sure that the power supply is stable throughout the installation (note installation
instructions in the cover of the operating software CD).

1. 

Insert current CD with navigation operating software V18.x.

2. 

The installation will start automatically.

3. 

When the installation is complete, the CD will automatically be ejected. The installation
can take up to 7 minutes.

4. 

Remove the CD.

5. 

Press the rotary push button to restart the navigation computer (see instructions on the
display of the on-board monitor).

6. 

The instruction "Insert V17 or Key CD" appears on the display of the on-board monitor.

7. 

Insert the Key CD.

8. 

When the installation is complete, the Key CD will automatically be ejected. The
installation can take up to 2 minutes.

9. 

Remove the Key CD.

10.  Following this, the navigation computer is automatically restarted.

11.  Encode the navigation computer (see BMW diagnosis system).

12.  The navigation computer must go into sleep mode. To do this, switch the ignition off.

After one minute, the "Power LED" on the navigation computer goes out.

Variant 4

In case of complaint, the navigation computer Mk3 in should be replaced in a vehicle with
navigation system (option 609). A new navigation computer Mk3 with operating software
V17 or earlier is to be installed. operating software V18 is not to be retrofitted or operating
software V18 was not installed at the factory.
