Navigation system operating software V 11.1 

E38, E39, E46 with option 606/609

Situation: 

From approx. May 1999, a modified navigation computer will be launched for the navigation
system with on-board monitor (option 609). The navigation computer for radio navigation
system (option 606) will then be gradually superseded by a modified version, too.

The key features of the new computer generation (not visible from the outside) are:

- modified CD drive 
- modified memory organisation.

These new navigation computers can no longer be loaded with operating software up to
and including version V 11!

Operating software intermediate version V 11.1*) announced in
IDC 011/99-1, or any future updates, must be loaded into these computers!

The content of this intermediate version is identical to that of V 11
(current since March 1999). The difference is that this version will recognise both the
current and the new versions of the navigation computer and will select the correct loading
program.

In this context, the modified CD drive that is described above constitutes an additional
improvement as the revised design prevents the occurrence of drive faults experienced to
date.

Affected
vehicles:

E38, E39, E46 with navigation system (option 609) or 
E46 with radio navigation system (option 606) 
Manufacturing period: from May 1999

This is the navigation system Mk2.

The Mk2-generation navigation system has been in service since September 1997, so the
same situation applies for the installation of new navigation computers in vehicles
manufactured before May 1999.

The part numbers of the new navigation computer versions are:

Navigation system with on-board monitor (option 609)

New part:

65 90 8 386 849 
65 90 8 385 439

Exchange part:

65 90 8 386 851

Radio navigation system (option 606)

New part:

65 90 8 386 850
