The part number is to be taken from the label on the upper part of the computer casing
(remove briefly from the retainer).

Procedure:

To prevent an older version of the navigation computer operating software from being
inadvertently loaded and the confusion which could arise from this, only the current version
of the CD "BMW Navigation System" V 11.1 is to be used.

The new versions of the navigation computer are relatively simple to recognise due to their
characteristics when drawing in a CD:

-

The typical humming noise of the CD drive being drawn in or ejecting is no longer
evident, or is at least much weaker.

-

The CD is not drawn in or ejected along a straight line, but rather with 
a slight rotating movement.

If a navigation computer cannot read the inserted CD because a CD "BMW Navigation
System" of an earlier status is inserted, the screen will go black. It is then no longer
possible to input commands via the on-board monitor or via the radio navigation system
control panel.

In such cases, switch the ignition off (wait at least 1 minute, i.e. until the navigation
computer switches off) and then back on again. The main menu appears. Now insert a CD
with the correct software version.

The navigation computer switches off with a time lag of about 1 minute after terminal R is
switched "OFF", provided there is no telegram traffic in the meantime on the I/K bus (e.g. by
activating other systems). When the navigation computer switches off, the main relay can
be heard to cut out.
