Operating software for navigation system "BMW Navigation V23.0"

E38, E39, E46, E53, E65, E66, E67, E83, E85, R50, R53 with navigation system (option
609)

Complaint:

The following faults can occur intermittently or permanently in the navigation system:

E83, E85:

- 

The display intermittently remains black after startup.

- 

The brightness setting on the display repeatedly returns to the centre position.

E38, E39, E46, E53, E83, E85, R50, R53:

- 

After "Destination reached" in non-digitalises areas and re-entry to a digitalised area,
destination guidance is reactivated.

- 

After returning from the telephone quick-dial menu with the 
R/T button, the radio screen is not shown again.

- 

When the vehicle is stationary, shortly before the programmed destination is reached,
the arrival time displayed may be earlier than the current time.

E65, E66, E67:

- 

The diversion button can only be selected if an "event" is present on the planned
route.

- 

The country list in the destination input can only be selected once.

- 

The system frequently resets (display dark, cracking noises from the loudspeakers) in
the MOST network.

- 

After the on-board computer display in the assist window, the navigation map can no
longer be displayed there as the necessary button is deactivated.

- 

Ferry connections are shown as roads.

These complaints do not constitute a valid reason for exchanging the navigation computer.

Cause:

Software error in navigation system operating system.

Affected vehicles:

E39, E38, E46, E53, R50, R53 with navigation system (option 609) Mk3 navigation
computer and "Splitscreen software" (standard or retrofit: part number 65 90 0 140 531) 
E65, E66, E67, E83, E85 with navigation system (option 609)

E38, E39, E46, E53, E83, E85, R50, R53: 
Manufacturing period: start of series production until March 2004
E65, E66, E67:
Manufacturing period: March 2003 until March 2004

For all other vehicles, installing the operating software V23.0 will not eliminate faults!

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, update the operating software. 
To do this, use the CD ROM "BMW Navigation V23.0", Index n, with part number
01 59 0 141 891

.
