Motorola V50 mobile phone: BMW-specific software upgrade
E38, E39, E46, E53 with complete basic fittings for Motorola V-series mobile phone
(option 632)
Situation:
The Motorola V50 mobile phone with BMW-specific software is approved for use with the
complete basic fittings for Motorola V-series mobile phone (option 632).
Units purchased through the BMW parts sales department are programmed with a BMW-
specific software and are suitable for use in BMW vehicles.
Units purchased on the open market on the other hand are not programmed with the
BMW-specific software and are not suitable for use in BMW vehicles. If such units are used
in a vehicle, the result may be connections being cut off, the unit being switched off or the
battery being discharged when the vehicle is parked.
Compatibility can be established by installing the BMW-specific software against invoice.
The cost of this, which will be invoiced by Motorola, is approximately 80 euros plus value
added tax.
The installation of the BMW-specific software should be charged to the customer. It is
advisable to issue the customer a BMW invoice. Reimbursement via warranty is not
possible.
Affected
vehicles:
E38, E39, E46, E53 with complete basic fittings for Motorola V-series mobile phone
(option 632) or basic equipment for installation of mobile phone (option 640) in
conjunction with a Motorola V50 mobile phone purchased on the open market.
Manufacturing period: E38, E39, E46 from June 2000; E53 from September 2000
Procedure:
Procedure for installing (against invoice) the BMW-specific software:
1.
Make sure that the mobile phone is a Motorola V50 unit.
•
The Motorola V50 mobile phone can be recognised by the letters "WAP" under
the keypad when the display is folded open.
•
If in doubt, ask the customer or consult the customer's invoice or operating
instructions.
2.
Additional identification features of the Motorola V50 mobile phone:
•
If the letters "BMW" appear in the starting screen when the mobile phone is
switched on, either the unit was purchased through the BMW parts sales
department or it already has the BMW-specific software installed. The mobile
phone is compatible with the vehicle systems - no further actions are needed.
•
An additional identifying feature is the BMW part number. If the Motorola V50
mobile phone has the 7-digit BMW part number 69 15 442 or 69 17 395, it is a
Motorola V50 mobile phone that has been approved by BMW. The part number
can be seen on a label when the battery has been removed (please refer to Fig.
1).
