Unscrew oil sump.

If necessary, remove oil wiper.

If necessary, remove intake snorkel for oil pump.

Installation:

The intake snorkel is secured with self-tapping screws. For this
reason, no threading is present on new oil sumps. Thread can be
shaped using existing screws.

Replace seal for intake snorkel.

Version up to 9/95 (flat seal)

Installation:

Sealing faces clean and free of seal debris.

Coat borders of partition area with Drei Bond 1209 (refer
to BMW Parts Service).

Replace seal.

Version from 9/95 (profile seal)

Installation:

Sealing faces clean and free of seal debris.

Replace the oil sump gasket.

Fill openings in oil sump gasket through parting lines to sealing
cover and to timing case with Drei Bond 1209 (refer
to BMW Parts Service).

Installation:

In order to prevent distortion during subsequent gearbox
installation, align oil sump flush with crankcase on transmission
end.
