Removing and installing, sealing / replacing
oil sump (M57) 

(engine removed)

Remove right engine support arm.

Remove exhaust manifold with turbocharger.

Secure engine with retaining plate, special tool 11 8 040, to
assembly stand, special tool 00 1 490

Note:

Special tool 11 3 350 can be used again after first being reworked.

Drain engine oil,

refer to 00 00 249.

Remove oil dipstick with guide tube (1).

Installation:

Slide new O-ring onto guide tube.
Coat new O-ring with engine oil.

Release all screws on oil sump (2).

Remove oil sump (2).

Note:

If the oil sump (2) is replaced, it is essential to convert the oil level
sensor (1) with a new gasket to the new oil sump.
