Autogas can cause freeze burns. Where applicable, protective leather gloves should be worn.
To drain the gas tanks on BMW-CNG vehicles, BMW-specific regulations must be complied with.

5.24.8
If work has to be conducted on the Autogas system, ensure before starting work that there is no dangerous
explosive atmosphere in the working area. Adequate ventilation of the area surrounding the vehicle must always
be provided.
It is reasonable to assume that the atmosphere is not explosive provided that the Autogas system components
which are being worked on have been drained and, if necessary, purged with inert gas (refer to No. 5.24.12).
Adequate ventilation is defined as at least 3 changes of air per hour in the working area.
5.24.9
Work with combustible materials on vehicles with Autogas system are only permitted if special measures
have been taken to prevent the escape of gas and the increase of pressure in Autogas tanks or in the extraction
lines as a result of heating. Where applicable, Autogas tanks should be removed and their extraction lines should
be drained.*

5.24.10
If Autogas tanks in driers for coating materials exceed temperatures of more than 60
°
C, they should be
removed before the drying operation.

5.24.11
After the replacement of standard components on the Autogas system in accordance with the assembly
procedure specified by the manufacturing, always check all assembly points to ensure that no Autogas is
escaping.
A suitable method for this is a leak tester spray which indicates leaks by the formation of foam, or leak tester
devices such as gas measuring and warning equipment which is able to measure gas concentrations well below
the minimum level at which explosions might occur.*

5.24.12
After repair work on Autogas systems which extends beyond the replacement of standard components in
accordance with the assembly procedure specified by the manufacturer, the system should be checked by a
specialist. Leak tests be performed using inert gas.
Nitrogen is a suitable inert gas: compressed air and carbon dioxide are not suitable.
Always use genuine BMW spares for repair work.
5.24.13
When tracing leaks in the Autogas system, always use a method which would make it impossible for any
escaping gas to ignite.
A suitable method for this is a leak tester spray which indicates leaks by the formation of foam, or leak tester
devices such as gas measuring and warning equipment which is able to measure gas concentrations well below
the minimum level at which explosions might occur.*
