"Brake lights" warning

E34 with Check Control

Complaint: 

The Check Control warning "Brake lights" or "Brake light electrics" lights up sporadically
even though the vehicle is in full working order.

Note:

If other warnings regarding the lights are displayed, please refer to 

Service Information bulletin 62 02 96 (057)

Cause: 

There is a delay before the K3 relief relay makes contact.

Affected
vehicles:

E34 with Check Control
Period of manufacture: May 95 - July 95.

Procedure:

Renew the K3 relief relay (to be found in the electronic box in the engine compartment).

Relay - Part no. 61 31 1 388 729

Reimbursement: 

Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms as follows:
