Removing and installing, sealing or replacing
timing case cover at bottom (M51)

Remove oil sump,

refer to 11 13 000.

Note:

After removing oil sump, temporarily reinstall front axle
support and remove special tool 00 0 200.

Remove cylinder head,

refer to 11 12 100.

Remove hub for vibration damper,

refer to 11 23 031.

If necessary, remove water pump,

refer to 11 51 000.

Remove alternator,

refer to 12 31 020.

Unfasten screws on bracket for alternator and hydropump.

Take off holder.

Installation:

Note hollow dowel (1).

Caution!

When working on chain drive, injection pump and adapter for
injection pump must be installed.

(The adapter is fitted to exchange engines as a substitute
pump).
